With many families out and about on half-term holiday trips this week, the UK’s most famous historical landmarks are still the favourite backdrop for family holiday photographs, according to new research from Lexmark International, the printer manufacturer.
The top five half-term holiday photographs according to the Lexmark survey are as follows:
Rank | Tourist Attraction |
1 | Houses of Parliament and Big Ben - London |
2 | Buckingham Palace – London |
3 | York Minister - York |
4 | British Airways London Eye - London |
5 | Legoland Windsor - Windsor |
London is officially the most photographed half-term holiday destination in the UK, according to British tourist board officials.
London, a firm favourite for half-term family days out, provides British school-kids with an array of historical and instantly recognisable landmarks to be snapped against. With writing lessons on ‘What I did during my school holidays’ still a staple lesson in the classroom, snaps prove their worth as an ideal educational accompaniment.
But the most photographed attractions in the UK aren’t all in London. Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Alton Towers – while not renowned for their educational value - have plenty of fun for the family and provide a great ‘action’ day out snap to show to friends!
York Minister and Chester Cathedral – two of the most historically renowned sites in the country also proved their popularity in the poll, emphasising the trend for parents to choose historical attractions with an educational value.
Numbers 6 to 10 in the poll are as follows:
Rank | Tourist Attraction |
6 | Blackpool Pleasure Beach - Blackpool |
7 | Clacton Pier – Clacton-on-Sea |
8 | Alton Towers – Alton |
9 | Chester Cathedral, Chester |
10 | Natural History Museum – London |
Tony Hall, Director, Consumer Printer Division, UK, comments, "Unsurprisingly it seems that the famous landmarks from the UK’s big cities are the most popular backdrop for photographs taken by families of UK half-term day trippers. Visiting the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben is a great cultural and educational experience for kids. It’s now so quick and easy to print a good quality photograph to record the event when you get back home, that including it in the half-term holiday school project is a must!’
