UK OFFICE WORKERS FED UP WITH UNRELIABLE OFFICE EQUIPMENT
Lexmark introduces Try before you Buy programme to help resellers increase MFP sales

Marlow, UK - 01/11/2002

The majority of office workers are growing tired of having to walk so far to carry out the mundane tasks of photocopying, scanning and faxing, according to a study of office workers carried out by Lexmark UK.  According to the research, 73% of workers have to venture more than 15 metres to reach just one form of office equipment, with 25% having to visit a different building altogether.

To improve the comfort and efficiency of office workers, Lexmark has today launched its ‘Try then Buy’ scheme, giving people the chance to evaluate the printers only metres away in their own business environment, with no obligation to buy. The programme includes multi-function printers (MFPs that print, scan, copy and email) keeping all key office tools close by and in one place.

Resellers can offer this facility to customers to encourage the likelihood of sales, and increase the scope for providing services around the multi-function devices.

The scheme offers the following printers to resellers focusing on businesses with 50+ employees:

  • Monochrome lasers - E320, E322n, T520dn, T620dn
  • Colour laser - C910n
  • Multi-function (MFP) - X522s, X750e

The printers can be kept if desired, at the end of the evaluation period and companies will be entered into a draw to win the Lexmark X125 Pro, a newly launched inkjet MFP.

The research also revealed that office workers are tired of having to use unreliable equipment.  In terms of unreliability, the photocopier was found to be the worst culprit (59%) followed by the printer (29%) and the fax machine (9%).

Other findings from the research include:

  • Most people would rather fix a printer (77%) than a photocopier (23%)
  • One use for the photocopier was to relieve stress by kicking it!
  • Not surprisingly the most used bit of office equipment was the PC (66%), followed by the printer (24%), scanner and photocopier both 4% and fax 2%
  • Most people had a reserve printer in the next room (33%) or within 10 metres of their desk (45%)

To take advantage of the programme, an application form must be submitted. These are available at www.smb.lexmark.co.uk/ttb, or call 08704 440044.
