The way we manage resources
From aggressive conservation efforts to our global recycling programmes, we never stop seeking new ways to protect the environment. Some of these include:

Waste reduction
Nearly 5 million pounds (nearly 2.3 million kilograms) of paper and cardboard waste, nearly 2 million pounds (nearly 1 million kilograms) of scrap metal, more than 430,000 pounds (195,000 kilograms) of plastic — that’s how much we were able to keep out of the solid waste stream in the past year through waste minimization programs at our corporate headquarters alone.

Cartridge collections
We make it easy for our customers to return — at no charge — used cartridges to us. Consequently, millions of Lexmark toner cartridges came back to us for remanufacturing, reuse or recycling in 2003, rather than going into the waste stream.

Equipment collections
Lexmark shares in the environmental responsibility for our products at end-of-life. Lexmark is a proud partner of the U.S. EPA Plug-In To eCycling campaign. In addition to offering equipment collection programmes in the United States and many European countries, we continue to develop new programs to provide more return, reuse and recycling options for our customers. Lexmark is taking strong steps to meet the recovery and recycling standards set forth in the European Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive.
